Crayola Photo Challenge- Orange

While on the east coast, mostly for work, I managed to sneak in some quality family time. It came at a cost though. Literally. (Amy!) But I also mean in terms of the hassle that I went through to get from DC to New York and New Jersey.

It was so worth it to get to spend time with my mother, sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces, aunt, uncle and grandparents. I spent Saturday (July 30th) in Point Lookout- the Long Island town my grandparents have a beach house at. It houses such great memories from my childhood and it was super fun to share some new memories with my nieces.

I loved seeing how fearless of the water (and almost everything else!) Quinn is. I loved swimming in the ocean with Julia (can't even remember the last time I did that). And I loved watching Lila opt to play with the outdoor shower near the bathrooms as opposed to going anywhere near the ocean water. It was so carefree and fun and because I was pretending this wasn't happening, it was such a welcome distraction.

One of the things I love seeing the most, is my grandfather tinkering with his tools. It's funny to think of this hardcore NY'er. This man who has mostly lived in the city his whole life, except for his time out on Long Island. Where he has the opportunity to own a house, ride a bike to the post office, go for a swim every single summer evening and putz around with his tools and fix things- things that likely don't even need to be fixed.

So when we all left to take the 1/2 mile walk to the beach, I turned around and snapped this shot of my grandfather who stayed behind because he doesn't go to the beach until the sun has gone down:

It wasn't until later that I realized I had a picture that captured my color and my grandfather perfectly!

Taken at 72 Garden City Ave in Pt. Lookout, NY.
